It occurred to Doc only after he'd sat down at the counter and the lone waitress gave him a look full of trepidation, that he should have probably have changed out of his coat.
He couldn't do anything about the mud he was still pretty caked in up to the hips, or his general disheveled, tired, sweaty and grass stained appearance, but he COULD have had the courtesy to shed his lab coat and it's jarringly bright blood stains (that were drying a funny shimmering purple in places).
He shrugged out of it as the waitress laid a menu in front of him on her way to get the coffee pot, draping it over his lap. Despite eyeing him with concern she poured him a cup and slid the cream and sugar dishes closer.
"Thanks. Sorry about the footprints."
"That's floor's seen worse." The waitress shrugged and turned with the coffee pot to the only other person in the place, sitting two stools over; a petite woman with dark hair who looked, to Doc, to be at least as tired as he felt.
"Want any more, honey?" the waitress asked her.

Loki was a dick, she decided, for ruining every moment of down time she ever had. It was because she was a comrade of Thor's but also because she generally frowned upon having her world taken over by a Godly nutcase. Jan would have loved to stay in her lab for a day or twelve but he always managed to pull her out. Faux superheroes, terrorist attacks... he was just a bag of tricks.
Her coffee was more cream and sugar than actual coffee but she accepted another cup. Jan was, of course, still wearing her sunglasses because it was bright in the diner and her sensitive eyes couldn't take it. Of course, she also looked like shit under those sunglasses, so they camouflage that at least.
"Yes, please. Just leave the pot."
She looked over to see that she was no longer the lone occupant of this diner. Poor schmuck.
"Only weirdos and masochists come to diners at this hour," Jan yawned and lit a cigarette. She and the waitress had come to an understanding. Jan would smoke; then Jan would tip handsomely. Everyone won. "Which are you?"

He gave her a glance over as he took a sip, assessing her sunglasses, ruffled hair and beat up clothes. The doctor in him couldn't help going on an injury hunt, watching for any gingerness in her motions or posture.
"So." he nodded to the tear in the shoulder of her jacket. "How bad did you leave the other guy looking?

For a little woman, she was a big eater when she was stressed.

"All I wanted to do was sit in my lab, do some science, maybe eat a cup o' noodles but noooo, I had to go to the bottom of the goddamn ocean for hours. I am done with today."

"Can I quote you on that? It's just so... scientific."
